Weekend in the Wichitas

March 8, 2015 by Cassie Leave a Comment

Sunshine and warmer temperatures could not have come at a better time. I don’t know about you, but cold, gloomy days leave me feeling a little stagnant. I feel lethargic, unmotivated, unsure of myself, and just a little lost. Winter blues are the worst. I am so thankful I live in a state with changing seasons. As soon as I begin to feel the effects of winter, spring peaks its head out.

Hiking in the WichitasThis weekend was exactly what we needed.

At the first sign of sun, The Carnivore and I loaded the truck and headed to the Wichita Mountains. We could not have timed it more perfectly. We were greeted by buffalo as we arrived in the Wildlife Refuge, and made our way straight to the trails.

BuffaloWe got there early enough that most of the trails were empty.

Hiking the Wichitas

Hiking in the WichitasThe morning was beautiful! There wasn’t much wind, the sun was shining, and the air was crisp. Perfect March morning.

Hiking in the WichitasIt’s amazing what some sunshine and fresh air will do to your mood.

Hiking in the Wichitas

We spent 2 hours or so hiking around the summit of Elk Mountain. We ate our lunch and looked over the herds of buffalo below.

We came off the mountain refreshed, rejuvenated, and feeling just a little bit better than when we started.

Hiking in the WichitasI am so happy to be springing forward today, I don’t even mind losing the hour of sleep. I’m so thankful spring is coming!
