We stayed home, we swam, we collected cicadas, we cooked a lot, we did go to a wedding, but July was pretty low-key around here.
We had plans to go to Grand Lake for the 4th of July – it’s our yearly tradition. The day before we left to drive up there, I got a call that Covid had been going around in the immediate group of people we were supposed to be seeing. We opted to stay home, grill, and spend our weekend in the pool. My mom, sister, and sister’s boyfriend came to see us – it turned out to be a really awesome weekend.
Chief “set off” his first fireworks! Smoke bombs, snakes, sparklers – they were all a big hit!
Chief and I worked on a campaign for Annie’s Homegrown. I created a recipe, wrote some content, but Chief was the star of the pictures – I mean look at his little face?!
We went to a wedding. My cousin got married in the middle of July and Chief thought “London’s Party” was the best thing he had ever been to. He danced until his little legs couldn’t dance any more, he introduced himself on the microphone, he ate wedding cake for lunch, and got to be in charge of the bubble machine when they exited the venue. He said “I like weddings!”
Sunday Supper Club was born. We’ve been getting together with our friends the Jaquas every Sunday since the end of May. They brought me a cake for my birthday on May 31, and that was the first time our kids had played together in months. They all had so much fun we decided we would get together every Sunday for some normalcy. Laurel and I both love to cook, so as the weeks went on our meals became more elaborate. Now it’s a thing. It has given us so much to look forward to every week during this crazy time – we all love it!
Things Chief said:
- “Tell me about my body.” Literally every time he’s getting in the bath/shower. We talk about everything from his toes to his brain – muscles, joints, senses, he wants to know it all!
- “Tell me about your day.” He says this when he’s trying to buy some time. Like when we’re about to leave his room at bedtime, he automatically becomes really interested in our day. Boy is good.
- I asked him one evening “Chief, will you be my boy forever?!” He replied “I will, unless I need to go to the dump with Dad. Then I won’t be. But I’ll be your boy when I get back.” Ok, I’ll take it.
- We were driving in the car and Chief pipes up from the backseat “Mom, you have the baddest tunes.”
- His go-to restaurant of the moment is “Dragon Baby.” Torchy’s Tacos. Have you seen their logo?! I hope he calls it Dragon Baby forever. 😂
