After two months, we finally got to see family again. It was a sweet, sweet reunion. We began to venture to the grocery store, our gym opened back up, but we are far from “back to normal.” We played a lot in the sprinklers, went on walks and bike rides, planted flowers, and continued doing morning activities everyday.
We took a trip to the lake! Two trips actually. We took one the weekend of Mother’s Day and the other for Memorial Day.
Mother’s Day was the SWEETEST! We went boating every day in jeans and jackets. Chief caught his first fish but his excitement was quickly followed by tears when he realized we weren’t going to keep his little catch.
Chief surprised me with the sweetest homemade card. He told me the reason he selected each sticker – “Fruit, because you make the best fruit ever; boat, because we go on boat rides; soccer ball, because you play silly soccer with me; hearts, because I love you; flowers, because you like them; and chickens, because you took me to see chickens when we went strawberry picking.”
Chief started swimming lessons. This is his 3rd season to do swimming lessons and while the first week is always a little rough (on both of us!), he’s swimming like a champ by the second. I’m so proud of our little swimmer.
I completed my CrossFit certification course. I had signed up to do my CrossFit certification at the end of March, but COVID put an end to that. I ended up completing the course (and passing my test!) the last weekend in May – same day as my birthday.
I celebrated my 34th birthday. Kind of – I was at a CrossFit seminar. I spent my day sweating, the boys made me dinner, and my best friend brought me a birthday cake. It was a pretty perfect day.
Chief made himself a peanut butter sandwich! He asked for a peanut butter sandwich one afternoon and quickly said “I’ll make it.” I got out the supplies for him and watched in awe as he made himself a sandwich. It was wild.
Things Chief said:
- We were on a walk one evening and to the side of the sidewalk there was a long, black snake. We all jumped! After the panic subsided Chief watched with amazement as this snake tried to slither up the neighbor’s fence. A group of ladies was approaching on their evening walk and Chief jumped in front them with his arms out wide “Everybody! Not touch the snake!” He guided them around the snake to keep them out of harm’s way. What a hero.
- “This is so inciting!!” When we were about to do anything that really excites him.
- “What said?” When he doesn’t hear us or doesn’t like what we asked him to do. He’ll keep repeating “What said?” until we finally give up.
- “I’m so afused.” When he doesn’t understand.
- He went on his first Sea-Doo ride on Memorial Day weekend. He drove that thing in circles all around the cove. He came back to the dock with the biggest grin exclaiming “I LOVE SEA-DOOS!”
- “Ninnows.” That’s what he uses as bait to fish. I couldn’t get over it. I kept asking him questions so he would keep repeating “ninnows.” I’m convinced it’s the cutest thing I’ve ever heard.
My Grandpa Dwight passed away. Exactly 4 weeks after my grandma. While it was a hard month for the rest of us, I find comfort in knowing they’re together again.
The last time I saw my grandpa was at my grandma’s funeral. Even though we were in the middle of the pandemic, everything was closed, we were supposed to stay away from gatherings, people, etc. I gave my grandpa the biggest hug. What’s crazy is I actually thought twice about hugging him… but I’m so glad I did. I didn’t know it then, but it would be my last opportunity to hug him and tell him I loved him in person.
While we’re grieving, I know they’re dancing.
