I have been working on this post since the beginning of this blog. It’s been a project, to say the least.
I drink a green smoothie daily and have for the past two years. I cannot even begin to express how much I adore them. It’s gotten so bad, I travel with a blender. If for some reason I’m not able to have one, my entire day is thrown off. I know – I’ve got issues.
Green smoothies are a great and delicious way to add a few servings of produce to your day. The more you make them, the more heavy-handed you’ll get with the greens. I now have a running challenge to see how much spinach I can fit in my Vitamix. I’m not sure I should’ve admitted that.
Here is a quick and easy chart I put together so you can create your own! This is based on the things I like, but don’t be afraid to use different bases, greens or fruits. Click here for a printable black and white version of this chart.
Steps 1 – 4 comprise your basic green smoothie. Feel free to stop there. If you want to supercharge your smoothie, keep working through the list.
Green Smoothie Tips:
- Blend your greens with your liquid until smooth. Then add the rest of your ingredients.
- Use frozen fruit. It gives your smoothie a nice consistency. If using fresh fruit, throw some ice in at the end to get it cold.
- Add your frozen fruit or ice VERY LAST when making your smoothie. The friction from your blender blades actually heats up your smoothie.
- Buy very ripe bananas (they’re usually cheaper too!). Peel them and stick them in the freezer to add to your smoothies.
Here are two of my favorite combinations:
Basic Green Smoothie (Mango, Pineapple, Banana)
- 1 cup almond milk
- 1 handful spinach
- 1/2 cup mango
- 1/2 pineapple
- 1/2 banana
Blend until smooth. Add ice or more almond milk to reach desired consistency.
- 1 cup almond milk
- 1 handful spinach
- 1/4 avocado
- 1/2 Tbsp chia seeds
- 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
- 1 cup strawberries
Blend until smooth. Add ice or more almond milk to reach desired consistency.
Happy Blending!

Do you buy fresh fruit and freeze it or buy frozen? Do you like your vitamix? I’ve been looking into buying a refurbished one, but wanted a review first since they are kind of pricey 😉
The Farmer's Daughter says
Both. I always have a bag of frozen strawberries, blueberries, mango and pineapple on hand. I know you don’t like bananas, but those I always buy fresh and then freeze. 😉 If I have fresh fruit that is getting a little too ripe I’ll use that and then just throw a few ice cubes in at the end.
I LOVE MY VITAMIX! I was hesitant at first because of the price, but it is well worth it! I have a refurbished one, and it’s been worth every penny. I’m pretty sure it would liquify my cell phone if I dropped it in there.

Wow! This is kinda crazy…I found your page on fb and am starting your green smoothies today. The crazy part is, I scrolled on down to the bottom of your page and see Chase is your husband. I’ve lived in Lovington forever and known his family that long too! Chase went to school with my two children, Caden and Kelsi. Small world
The Farmer's Daughter says
How funny! Chase talks about Caden often. I’ll have to let him know you stumbled upon the blog. 🙂 It really is a small, small world.
Hope you enjoy the green smoothies!
