Yesterday wasn’t my day. Tuesdays are my busiest day of the week, so in order to keep myself sane, I have to start my day prepared – lunch packed, multiple changes of clothes loaded, yoga classes planned, personal workout written, and new playlist downloaded. I did all of these things… and then left it all at home. Not my day. I spent my Tuesday a little frazzled, a little hangry, and more than a little sweaty. I fumbled my yoga sequence, wore a jacket as my top, and somehow listened to the same 5 songs on repeat during my 75 minute yoga class (Sorry, guys!). But you know what comes after Tuesday? Wednesday. AND. I. LOVE. WEDNESDAYS.
Through sleepy eyes, achy muscles, and crazy hair, that is the first thing I say to The Carnivore when I wake up on Wednesday mornings. I only teach one class, have a semi-short day at work, and it’s my active rest day. Monday and Tuesday are loaded with work, intense workouts, and 4 yoga classes; I start my mornings at 6:00am and I wrap up about 9:00pm. By Wednesday, my body is exhausted and I’m mentally drained. Today I will work, attend a gentle yoga class, and only teach one class before I head home to cook dinner and get some pool time in before calling it a night. It’s also “water your succulents” day at Casa de Bridgforth. That’s a pretty perfect day.
It’s so crazy how a day, hour, or even a minute can change things so drastically. I was ready to give up on my Tuesday, but as my first yoga class laid in savasana I sat at the front of the room feeling flustered and out of control. I closed my eyes, and took a few deep breaths. At the end of every class I mention “Take a moment to acknowledge and appreciate your willingness and dedication to the progression of the yoga practice. Some days will be harder than other, some days you’ll be able to balance on a finger, and others you’ll struggle to balance on two feet. Find joy and appreciation in the journey, the progression of the practice, the good days, and the bad.” I inadvertently gave myself a pep talk as I dismissed the class. My Tuesday didn’t go as planned, but it was awesome. It was busy and filled with things I love to do! As I drove to my next class, starving, wearing only yoga pants and a jacket, I thought.. how lucky am I!?
