Is there anything better than the 4th of July? I don’t think so. It’s warm enough to celebrate at the lake or pool, and there’s not the added pressure of gift giving and menu planning.
ANNNDDD there’s this….
We had an exceptionally awesome 4th this year. The Carnivore and I packed up the big, blue truck last Friday morning and drove the 3 hours to The Canebrake in Wagoner. You guys know how much I love this place, so I was super excited to spend the first night of my holiday weekend in rural Oklahoma.
Please excuse the grainy picture, but Venus and Jupiter looming over the outdoor party was too good not to share.
The morning of the 4th I was able to catch a yoga class in The Canebrake’s Yoga Barn. The Yoga Barn is in my top 2 places to practice. I love that space so much.
After my class, we loaded up the truck again and headed to Grand Lake. My family has been celebrating the 4th of July at Grand Lake since I was in middle school. Some family friends of ours have a cabin on Duck Creek, right across the cove from the big fireworks display! Best seat on the lake.
Have you guys seen the article where an interviewer asks a handful of Americans why we celebrate Independence Day? It’s hilarious and so sad at the same time. Well I was inspired to ask the question myself. Most everyone knew why we celebrated the holiday, but I did have one girl (won’t name names, but you know her) say “we got our independence… from France.” Ahem. Just stop after independence.
The Duck Creek fireworks are my absolute favorite. I am sure being on the lake adds to the excitement, but I’m convinced they’re the best out there.
The Carnivore and I left my little hometown of Chelsea early Sunday, but I couldn’t help taking a few pictures downtown before we hit the road.
A weekend good for the soul. I returned home refreshed, grounded, and ready to tackle my week. Happy Birthday America. Thanks for the party.
