Well I have officially been at my new gym for about a week. I mentioned in my previous post that my first day there was intimidating, clunky, and uncomfortable, but it’s gotten easier and easier every time I go in. Just yesterday I couldn’t find something, so I asked one of the trainers that was walking the floor. He showed me what I needed, and then proceeded to give me a few other exercises to target the same muscle group I was working. It was great! Don’t be afraid to ask questions. I still haven’t tried a group fitness class, but as soon as my schedule opens up I’m gonna try one! I’m also happy to report, I haven’t fallen off the back of a treadmill again.
In other news…
I recently learned something really interesting that I HAD to share. Do you have Blue Cross Blue Shield? When I joined my new gym I did it through Blue Cross Blue Shield to save money on my membership. Through my insurance, I paid a $25 enrollment fee and then only $25/month for my membership. What I didn’t know is I can join as many gyms as I want (that are in the BCBS network) for that same $25. So it’s not $25 per place like I thought, it’s just a flat $25 and I can have 6 different memberships if I desire. Isn’t that awesome?!? If you have BCBS, go to their website and create a Blue Access account. From there you can sign up for their fitness program and see what gyms/facilities are in the network in your area. So cool. I’m on a quest to join every one of them.
Also, both of the places where I teach yoga are currently running a Groupon! If you’ve been interested in starting, this is a great way to get your feet wet. They’re such a great deal. Jump on it!
Summer is the perfect time to start something new. Class sizes are usually smaller, gyms aren’t as crowded, trainers have more availability, and teachers are able to give more one-on-one attention. For the cost of just one dinner, you could have a monthly yoga and/or gym membership. If you’re in the Norman area, come yoga/workout with me! Seriously, though… I’m always in the market for new friends. 😉
