I’m thinking I should create a new series called “I really wanted this, but I ate that instead.” That’s usually how my meals work. I really want spaghetti, so I eat veggies with marinara. I really want a chocolate chip cookie, so I broil a chocolate chip cookie dough Quest bar. I really want a burger, so I make a “cheeseburger” salad. Now don’t get me wrong, I eat my fair share of rich, indulgent foods. No food is off limits for me – I’m a regular at EarthFruits fro-yo, and gluten might be my favorite thing. However, I know to feed my body properly I can’t eat like that all the time. Generally my food is a healthier version of what I’m really craving, and 85.23954% of the time it gets the job done.
Case in point.
Last Thursday I REALLY wanted a banana split for breakfast. Like REALLY wanted a banana split. Knowing ice cream wouldn’t be the best choice to start my day, I laid out all the flavors I was craving and made a giant smoothie bowl. Chocolate, bananas, strawberries, chopped nuts… you get the point. All but the marshmallow fluff, I couldn’t figure that one out.
Cast of Characters:
- LARGE handful of greens
- 1 cup almond milk/water
- 1 serving chocolate protein powder (I’m currently using Arbonne)
- ½ banana
- 1 cup frozen strawberries
- Additional berries
- Chopped nuts
Into the blender goes almond milk, a large handful of greens, chocolate protein powder, and half a banana. Blend until smooth.
Add 1 cup frozen strawberries, blend until smooth (and thick!). If your smoothie is a little runny, add some ice until it reaches your desired consistency.
Pour that goodness in a bowl. Top with additional berries and chopped nuts. Enjoy!
Now to figure out the fluff…
